Dentist Question

Hi, I had a painful cleaning last time I went and am having trouble figuring out how to get over my anxiety about going to the dentists again. Do you ask for options? Dentists don’t seem to take pain seriously. Looking for advice to not have the worst sharp pain.

Hello. My dentist was quite understanding and respectful about my having Fibromyalgia and severe chronic pain. I simply asked for some numbing (topical, not via needle as I imagine that would be more expensive and only necessary for surgery) before the cleaning and it was ok. I also made sure to take extra pain meds beforehand to make sure I'd be comfortable.

Many dentists are concerned about patients’ pain. If your dentist and/or hygienist is not receptive to your concerns, find another one.
