I bite my nails when pain levels rise. I use my nail biting as a gauge for how much pain I'm in on a daily basis. Stress doesn't cause it, but pain sure does. Especially pre-headache pain for me. I started wondering if others have this issue. I've never been able to fully stop biting my nails. But daily maintenance and eliminating hangnails seems to reduce it. I think it's risky, especially for someone like me who has gut issue to keep biting my nails. I probably get more germs in my mouth than usual. I try to keep ahead of it with more hand washing, but it's still not good.

Anyone have great advice to stop nail biting? I've tried that nasty tasting nail polish stuff, good maintenance, and keeping gloves on 24/7.

I know someone who has always chewed nails (no ME), after lying in an manmade coma the nail chewing was gone! Of course this is not a solution.
