Q fever

Hello all,

Has anyone else tested positive for Q fever? I apparently had a "past" infection (unknowingly; it was found by a blood test) and I wonder if it triggered my ME/CFS.

I looked into it a bit, and in the scientific literature there is a Post-Q Fever Fatigue Syndrome that has been documented. The symptoms are essentially identical to ME/CFS. However, it seems antibiotics are only used for an active Q fever infection. I contacted the one Q fever researcher I could find in Canada (where I live), and he gave me some insight, but he doesn't see outpatients and obviously could not provide advice beyond suggesting I might want to see an infectious specialist. He also mentioned that since it's a past infection that my body may have already cleared on its own, the Q fever serology might not explain my current symptoms (the most disabling of which is persistent fatigue).

Anyone have any experience at all regarding Q fever? Has anyone seen an infectious disease specialist about it (and if so, how did that go)? Any other Q fever researchers (especially those who work on it in the context of CFS/ME) in the world that I could at least contact via e-mail (too ill and broke to travel anywhere)?

Thank you kindly, and my best wishes to all - especially during this holiday season.
