A Cures Revival

Just saw Senator Mitch McConnell mention this on the news. He said the "Cures Revival" was a priority for the lame duck session. If this has been discussed before on this site I do not remember.

I think it would speed up research and beef up funding to the NIH. It seems that the opposition is that it does not also address drug pricing. You know Washington, there is no such thing as a "clean bill." Someone is always adding something; it is just the way it is done.

According to this article, " https://www.statnews.com/2016/07/11/medical-cures-legislation-senate/ " the House passed it's version called 21st Century Cures Act last year.

The article states:
The goal of the effort is to try to make it easier for new drugs and medical devices to win approval by federal regulators so patients can use them as quickly as possible. The legislation is supported by the pharmaceutical and medical device industries as well as patient advocacy groups, but public watchdog groups worry that it would undermine the Food and Drug Administration’s efforts to make sure the new products are safe.

Could be a good thing.
