Activated Charcoal Has Improved My Sleep

This is very odd, but activated charcoal has improved my sleep.

I have been googling to try and find out why, and the only thing that has given me a clue is this.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3777856/

It says that activated charcoal can absorb the poisons created by gut bacteria which would then help reduce intestinal epithelial barrier disruption and systemic inflammation.

As more is becoming known about the gut-brain connection, I'm wondering if these nasty toxins are affecting my sleep and that soaking them up is the reason it helps.

Interesting! May I ask what type of activated charcoal you use, how much, and how often? Thanks so much.

When I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, I take activated charcoal and it almost always works. I don't know if it is placebo or toxins but I'll take it!

But doesn't it also absorb everything you take with it? ? That would take a lot of planning to make sure it away from everything else.

Also I think it can cause constipation.

I was told it doesn't. It binds toxins. I use Takesumi. Very pure.

I have some clay, but haven't tried that yet. That will bind everything. But I'm getting ready to start my heavy metal detox and I need both to pull out and bind and eliminate.

It will bind your meds and supplements too.

Drugs.com recommends 1 hour before or 2 hours after other meds.

Thanks Remy will have to change my ways a little. Hasn't seemed to hurt me though. Maybe didn't need the supplements. Hmmmm????

Maybe! Sad thought...:) Although my own supplement drawer has been undergoing an overhaul itself lately. Enough is enough! Now off to try my new supplement. LOL.

Diatomacous earth is good for removing bad stuff. I've used it before and it's not horrible but I can't get past the taste

There is a liquid clay that supposed
To be good. Can't think of the name now but I'll try to remember to look for it later.

Yeah @Remy. Good luck to us all with cleaning out our supplement drawers and not adding more. I just added holy basil. Not cured yet. Lol

Thanks for reminding me....I've been having a lot of nausea due to chemical sensitivity problems and activated charcoal can be a good way to mop up those toxins.

Fiber and oil are two other ways used by MCS specialist Dr. Rea in Dallas in his sauna patients who were dumping scads of toxins into their system. He believed that more toxins were dumped in the gut during sauna than eliminated through the skin. He also used vit C, vit. E and taurine I think. I'm going to try and find his formula.

I know this is a very old thread but I stumbled on it by googling "activated charcoal for sleep"! I have been taking it just before bed for the last three weeks and it has massively improved my sleep quality. I actually feel rested in the morning. It is definitely this supplement as I tried skipping it a couple of evenings and my sleep worsened. It might not work for everyone but would say it's certainly worth a go

Thanks! I'm going to give it a try! If toxins are disturbing sleep as well they might this might make sense.
