Absolutely, his diagnosis is based on a couple of forum posts and he "prescribes" acupuncture and things like that... that's like treating an inland taipan snake bite with Vitamin B12 and cookies...Rituximab is a powerful drug which could have nasty side effects - so it needs to be studied carefully before deciding whether to use it. Like all drugs, including those with a long history of clinical trials, it won't help everyone and some people may be harmed by it. There is nothing controversial about saying that, it's basic science.
Criticising someone else's decision about whether to try it or not and a doctor's decision about whether to offer it to a patient or not without being in full possession of the facts is distasteful and undermines the credibility of those making the comments. It may also be libel.
It's also rather amusing that someone claiming to care about science based medicine bases their writing on anecdotes. No credibility with me whatsoever, I think ignoring them is the appropriate response.
Because this is a circle jerk psychiatry site and they don't want ANY answers that won't support their theories. Never mind Rituximab, though powerful, shouldn't deteriorate you unless you already have a BIO ILLNESS that can't handle it nor do they consider all the other sever patients like Emily Collingridge, Vanessa Li, Naomi Whittingham or Sophia Mirza. They just ignore these severe patients. And poor Karina Hansen. LOOK what these psychiatrists have done. Why didn't Harriet actually talk to (a) Janet or Ron about Whitney, before posting such anecdotes without permission and (b) actually talk to the Norwegian researchers to ask what other research is being done and why they did the open label studies instead of making wrong assumptions?
