Dr. Courtney Craig came out with a blog on drugs that can affect mitochondrial functioning...It turns out that some of them are used pretty commonly in ME/CFS. If you're taking them she recommends mitochondrial supplementation.

Check out her blog here: http://www.drcourtneycraig.com/blog/2014/11/29/medication-induced-mitochondrial-damage

If medication is required, attempting to counteract the deleterious effects with mitochondrial supports is warranted!

A specific list of mitochondrial disrupters may look like this:
  • Antidepressants: Amitriptyline, Celexa, Prozac
  • Pain Relievers: Acetaminophen, Voltaren, Naproxen, Aspirin
  • Blood Pressure Medications: Propranolol
  • Cholesterol Medications: Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor
  • Diabetes Medications: Metformin
  • Antibiotics: Erythromycin, Tetracycline
  • Anti-Anxiety Medications: Xanax, Valium
  • Benzodiazepines: Klonopin, Ativan

CQ10 is great for this. It is being used at high doses to stop Parkinson's from progressing. One of those supplements we may all need. It's energizing too.
