@Who Me? Maybe you were Herxing? Hmm wonder why you had that reaction. My doc says I will not feel better from it for 3-4 months...
I took Valtrex for a while, I don't recall exactly, but probably a year or more. Insurance wasn't too happy with the cost, but I finally stopped when I had some elevated liver enzymes. I can't say for sure how much it helped. HHV-6 and some other viruses continued to be active in that time period.

As we all know, we are all different. It hurt @Who Me? , it didn't hurt or help me tremendously - maybe it will help you! Good luck.

Are you sure it wasn't Valcyte? Valcyte is for HHV6 and CMV. Valtrex isn't especially effective for HHV6. Generic Valtrex isn't all that expensive as meds go. Most insurance companies balked at Valcyte, though, before it went generic.

It was valtrex, and it was expensive enough at 2,000mg a day. Had to get insurance approval every month.

I have HHV-6, but also EBV, mycoplasma, and an assortment of others opportunistic bugs. Valtrex was what my doc was willing to prescribe, so valtrex is what I took.

Wow, that must have been a serious pain! Like we don't have enough to deal with.

I'd do the same thing. :)

Looking back at @Who Me? 's original post, I started to try to remember all of the 'ologists' I've seen over the past several years... I think I remembered them all:
  • Primary care physician
  • Immune 'specialist' at PCP's office
  • Cardiologist
  • Endocrinologist (x2)
  • Rheumatologist
  • Gastroenterologist
  • Pulmonologist
  • Psychiatrist
  • Acupuncturist
  • Integrative 'CFS' doc (x2)
  • NAET Practitioner
  • MD/Chiropractor/Physical Therapist for Carpel Tunnel
  • Allergist
  • And finally, a new PCP
  • Oh, and I have an appointment tomorrow morning with a new Cardiologist
Plus, not specifically CFS related, but a podiatrist and dermatologist.
That's since around May of 2011.

@Upgrayedd You reminded me I forgot gastro. That was more for colonoscopy but I talked to her about SIBO and other stuff. She understood the medical aspect but no clue about what it was like to live with IBS. I'll go back and add her
