Is anyone doing Dr. Joseph Brewer's protocol?

Hi @Hip ,

I admire the brain power you are putting toward understanding the mitochondria.
Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't tried inosine yet. Many of the other things Doug was taking are familiar.

I think my ME/CFS was caused by having a bad case of mono while living in an apartment building that had a toxic mold problem. And maybe my genetic susuceptibilities played a part too.

My personal theory about why Dr. Brewer's protocol might work on us is that maybe when a person has a bad viral illness it distracts the immune system in some way and allows fungi to set up housekeeping in a biofilm in the sinuses.

One other thing I notice about Dr. Brewer's studies is that he used patients of his who had been seeing him a long time. He is a good ME/CFS specialist. So his patients had probably tried every other treatment that was appropriate for them already. So maybe the antifungal in the sinuses was the last piece of the puzzle falling into place for those patients who got well.

Hi @Forebearance,

Was nice to run across your thread today. And was very happy to hear you're doing so much better using the sinus protocol you described.

I have a brother with a moderate case of ME/CFS whose had some very major sinus problems this past year. He started supplementing with both iodine and DMSO a few months ago, and he said his sinuses have improved significantly in the past few weeks. I just sent out the following email to him, which I thought connects in with this thread.

Best, Wayne

I got to thinking after reading the following (which has some good stories) that your sinus improvements might possibly be the result of your supplementing with iodine, and addressing a candida fungal infection in the process. Taking iodine along with DMSO is another good possibility.

Dr Orian Truss
In 1953 Dr Orian Truss discovered the devastating effects of antibiotics in an Alabama (USA) hospital. During a hospital round Truss was intrigued by a gaunt, apparently elderly man who was obviously dying. However, he was only in his forties and in hospital for four months. No specialist had been able to make a diagnosis. Out of curiosity Truss asked the patient when be was last completely well.

The man answered that he was well until six months before when he had cut his finger He had received antibiotics for this. Shortly afterwards he developed diarrhoea and his health deteriorated. Truss had seen before how antibiotics cause diarrhoea. It was known that Candida was opportunistic and thrived in debilitated patients, but now Truss wondered if it might not be the other way round, that Candida actually caused the debilitated condition.
He had read that potassium iodide solution could be used to treat Candida infestation of the blood. So he put the patient on six to eight drops of Lugol's solution four times a day and soon the patient was again completely well.

Soon afterwards he had a female patient with a stuffy nose, a throbbing headache, vaginitis and severe depression. To his amazement all her problems immediately cleared with Candida treatment. Some time later he saw a female patient who had been schizophrenic for six years with hundreds of electroshock treatments and massive drug dosages. He started treating the woman for sinus allergies with a Candida vaccine. Soon she had recovered mentally and physically, and remained well.

From then on he treated his patients against Candida at the slightest indication of its presence. Many of his patients made remarkable recoveries from most unusual conditions including menstrual problems, hyperactivity, learning disabilities, autism, multiple sclerosis and auto-immune diseases such as Crohn'sdisease and lupus erythematosus.

Every experienced naturopath can relate similar success stories. Ironically, antibiotics are usually not necessary in the first place. In a few per cent of the cases in which they are necessary their serious after effects could easily be avoided using fungicides and lactobacilli.
Many people doubt the effectiveness of natural therapies against apparently serious infections, but my experience leads me to believe that frequently natural therapies are more effective, without causing the repeated and chronic infections seen after antibiotics. I have seen patients who have been unsuccessful on long-term antibiotic treatment recover within days or weeks with natural therapies.

Though it's not mentioned above, borax is also a VERY strong and effective anti-fungal. I take some every day, in an extremely cheap manner. I just take a teaspoon from Borax detergent (image below), dissolve it in a quart of water, and drink a teaspoon of the liquid every day. I also use it in my regular eyewashes, along with DMSO.

So, 1 teaspoon lasts about a month. Don't let it throw that's it's advertised as a detergent; it's actually a completely organic compound that just happens to be able to help clean clothes. It has also been widely documented to be able to flush fluoride from the body, and help people overcome serious arthritis pain.

Here's a LINK to some good information on the health benefits of Borax.

Hi @Wayne !
Thanks for the article! I haven't heard of anyone taking Borax. I wonder what it tastes like.
I'll add it to my list of things to look into.

It looks like both Dr. Brewer and Dr. Nathan are good doctors at treating chronic illnesses like ME/CFS and Lyme. But I do notice a difference in their treatment philosophies when using the protocol Dr. Brewer invented.

The Brewer patients I've read posting in forums describe Dr. Brewer as watching his patients go through a period of time when they feel much worse while doing his protocol. Then some of them feel much better afterwards. But some of them also drop out, because they can't handle how terrible they are feeling.

I heard this especially at first when he was using Amphotericin B, which is really strong. It caused unbearable side effects in some patients.

So then Dr. Nathan comes along and he is telling patients to do the protocol at a rate that they can tolerate without unpleasant side effects. He seems to feel that putting ME/CFS patients through any kind of healing crisis is bad for them.

I've been instinctively doing the protocol like Dr. Nathan would recommend doing it. I can't put myself through times of feeling terrible. As a result I've been doing the protocol really slowly and it's been taking a long time. But the only side effects I've had have been occasional sinus pain, sinus drainage, and stuffed up nose. When my sinuses drain, the stuff that comes out burns the back of my throat. All these effects are completely tolerable and I've never thought about quitting.

So I guess my point is that it helps to know yourself and how you react to treatments that kill things.

I haven't posted on this thread in a long time, because I have nothing dramatic to report.
I'm still taking the tiny amounts of Nystatin that I always have taken. It is still working to improve my health.
I've been just gradually getting better. Nothing earth-shaking.
And I continue to love this protocol.

Well, my last thermogram showed that my lower face was all inflamed, so I went to get some Lymph Enchancement Therapy. It is helping my lymph system drain the accumulated debris from my face.

Doing sinus treatments like Nystatin seems to create a certain amount of debris, and the lymph system has the job of carrying it out. The lymph nodes in my face, neck and jaw were apparently all clogged and swollen and now they are much clearer. Whew!

If anyone else tries LET, I would recommend starting gradually. At first it hurt like crazy. I've been doing half hour sessions instead of their usual hour. I had to laugh because the women who do this for me have apparently not met someone who needed it so much.

I feel like the LET may be helping to prevent me from getting lymphoma.

Where do you go for that? Because what I see is beauty treatments and beauty machines like this: https://www.ccibeauty.com/cc-5001s-lymphatic-drainage-facial-machine

And I'm not sure that's what you mean.

Hi @Not dead yet! , I've been going to a massage therapy place that has lots of new agey alternative type treatments available. It's done by a massage therapist, although they have to get special training in order to do it.

it's similar looking, but different. than the machine you linked to. It has little tubes that look like lightbulbs and are filled with some kind of gas. Let me see if I can find a picture of it online....

Okay, here is a description of the therapy:

Hello @Forebearance I was wondering how are you doing on the Brewer protocol now? Any bigger changes? I am thinking of starting it myself soon as I have noticed a correlation with how bad my sinuses are with my extreme chronic fatigue, I was also exposed to black mold when I was getting unwell.
Could you tell me how much nystastin do you out in the nasatouch machine and how much water? I am yet to get these,
Many thanks

Hi Tareq,

The amount of Nystatin recommended by Dr. Brewer is 50,000 IU in 5ml of water. When you get the prescription, they include a mixing cup with a line showing how much water is 5ml.

I have found that this treatment is very good for customizing to your specific needs. If you get unpleasant side effects from detoxing too hard, you can adjust the amount of Nystatin down to a comfortable level.

I am still LOVING this protocol. I can only do it slowly, so I am making slow steady improvement.
Good luck!

Hey, How are you doing with the protocol now? I have been prescribed the nystatin from my doctor and was told to use 1/3 teaspoon mixed with water in a nebulizer, I am having to get a normal nebulizer as nasal ones are very expensive here in UK. However, I was wondering if a normal nebulizer will be effective?

Hi Tareq,

That is so great that you are going to start doing this! I don't know if a normal nebulizer will be effective. But it is better than nothing! At least it will get some of the medicine up into your sinuses. I hope you will let me know how it goes for you.

This remains one of the best treatments I have ever done for my ME/CFS. I am still doing it, and loving the effects of it. When I have the correct dose, it reduces inflammation with no intolerable side effects. Just some detoxing.

I have been experimenting with another treatment called BAUD therapy, and that seems to be allowing me to tolerate the Nystatin better. So I may be doing the Nystatin more often now.

Best wishes!

I’m so glad you’re continuing to get benefit from it! I’ll give it a go at least with the normal
Nebuliser and just try my best to sniff deep instead of through my mouth. Do you find it has helped with you fatigue too?
I’ll def let you know in time how I get on with it kind regards,
Tareq

Yes, it guess it has helped with my fatigue. It has happened so gradually that I barely notice it. But when I compare my progress over time, it's noticeable.

Okay here is my latest update!

Recently I figured out that my thyroid supplements were out of balance. I fixed them, and have been detoxing better. So i've been able to tolerate doing the Nystatin treatment more often: every 3 days instead of every 4 days.

So far it appears to have cured my allergy. I developed a grass allergy when I lived in a moldy dorm building in college. It is really nice to not have it any more! I think it's a sign that I am on the right track.

I recently discovered something else. I've been doing Nystatin in the evenings, and then following it 3-4 hours later with a dose of colloidal silver sprayed up the nose right before going to bed. This combo seems to cause a more powerful result.

Dr. Brewer initially intended his protocol to be one-two punch of Nystatin plus a biofilm buster. Maybe adding the colloidal silver is doing the same thing as the biofilm buster was supposed to do.

So after accidentally mixing up a larger dose of Nystatin than usual, and taking it anyway because I was too lazy to re-mix it, an interesting thing happened. I developed a lot of sinus pain, which lasted for a week. It made all my teeth hurt too. It felt like my head was trying to explode! In addition, my brain felt very toxic.

Then last night the pain suddenly moved down into my upper abdomen. My internal organs ached like crazy for about an hour. My head felt blissfully clear. Then the pain moved down and spread out to my skin, which started to burn a lot.

The only thing I know that causes pain that moves around like that and burns the skin is stupid mold toxins. So I really hope that this experience meant that a batch of mold or mold toxins have moved out of my sinuses and hopefully I have excreted them by today.

Now in the day after this event, my sinuses are starting to ache again. So maybe the pattern is going to repeat itself. This is all such a weird experience. I really hope it is accomplishing something.
