Differential release of serotonin and histamine from mast cells

We now report that the tricyclic antidepressant drug amitriptyline (Elavil) inhibits histamine release from stimulated mast cells while permitting the release of serotonin.

Serotonin and histamine are stored in the same compartment as serglycin proteoglycan. Here we addressed the possibility that serglycin may be involved in their storage and/or release.

The antidepressants do it again..You just never know what is going to show. This one - inhibited histamine and increased serotonin seems almost ideal
