ME/CFS/FM/POTS/IBS - Inter-related At the Core?

The osteopath I saw, did that one time with two people. It threw me for a loop. It messed me up worse. It was to much energy at once. When the nerves get unblocked and we tend to be sensitive any way. - less is better. We didn't do that again. Don't be surprised if it triggers suppressed memories of things you would rather not remember. It comes with time and only as much as your mind can handle at a time. It was a positive thing for me. I could feel my blood in my legs when the flows were unblocked. Like extra charged. It was something else. Hope it works for you.

This is another important topic. Antidiuretic hormone ( ADH) is synthesized in the hypothalamus and secreted by the posterior pituitary. The primary functions of ADH are to retain water in the body and to constrict blood vessels. So, in fact, EDS people may be having issues to low ADH secretion. Has anyone been evaluated ? I do not have EDS, but am peeing out 3 liters a day and still dehydrated.

The craniosacral specialists ( osteopaths/some chiropractors/some advanced bodyworkers) remind us how the pituitary functions. There is interbone movement between the body of the sphenoid bone and the occiput. The sphenoid is a vertical bone behind your eyes, and the occiput is at the base of the skull. The pituitary sits in the little notch in the sphenoid called the sella turcica. The gentle interconnected movement of the sphenoid and occiput is thought to stimulate the pituitary. ( from Chiropractic : The Anatomy and Physiology of SacroOccipital Technique by Jonathan M.P, Howat, D. C, DICS,FICS,FCC)

I actually had the nerve to ask a very well-known neurosurgeon ( former chief of neurosurgery at Loma Linda) if he felt the principles in this (incredible) volume were correct. He read the book ! He walked around the room, looked out the window and said, " It will take 20 years."

Think structure and function. The pelvic bones reciprocate with the cranial bones. Cranial bones have specific motions that affect the function of the entire body. People who have scoliosis may, in fact, have too much asymmetry for the nervous system to compensate for.

There is an important new book by a very respected orthopedic surgeon, Prof. Dr. Valentyn Serdyuk, Univ. of Odessa, Ukraine, Scoliosis and Spinal Pain Syndrome. Scoliosis is much more complex than appreciated. Also, read some of the articles by Erik Dalton. This can't take 20 years.

Is what you are talking about the same as Cranial Osteotherapy? I think that's what the name was. It's hard to say what worked for me 20 years ago as I was simultaneously

Twenty years a when I first had CFS/ME type syndrome - not diagnosed as my GP would only put 'depression' - but I knew what it was. I had a treatment called something like 'Cranial Osteology'. Sorry to be vague, but it was a long time ago. I was also having TCM including acupuncture, herbs and Chi Qong. aromatherapy and anything else I could get at low cost. I was also instinctively using pacing techniques although I hadn't heard of anything about it.

The point is that I went into remission for at least 12 years. During the Cranial technique (sorry to be so vague but it's late and my brain has switched off), I felt as if I was tripping. It was a very powerful experience. I felt a great deal better afterwards - lighter.

Also the bit you say later about the sacral region is interesting. I have L5/S1 disc herniation and would be interested to hear your opinion on that. Sorry again that my comment is so garbled. Maybe I should have waited until the morning when I am usually more switched on.

Issie and Tonto - very interesting. Issie, yes, I have gotten worse too after some pretty gentle treatment. Repressed memories, strange dreams - oh yeah!!! But even very tiny changes in structure can throw me for a loop. Read about healing crisis. Interesting. True??? The Native American medicine men/ shaman talk about 'soul loss,' where parts of the soul get broken off and are lost. They do 'soul retrieval.'

Tonto - yes, I am talking a lot about cranial osteopathy. The sacro-occipital chiropractors know about all of this, too. There are some massage people that advertise craniosacral therapy, too, - as well as some physical therapists. Interesting that you went into remission for so long. So, you know that your body/nervous system can find the right set point for wellness.

I also had some of your experiences during cranial work - felt light all over, felt head expand, had a crazy vision- type thing, as if I went to some point in the distant past and watched a movie. Extreme emotional responses. A Physical therapist wad able to move my sacrum into a position where I stood up, and was different - straight, relaxed, full of energy!! Went shopping at 4 stores!!! Came home, sat down - gone.

Tonto - since the spine is attached to the top of the sacrum - the sacrum supports the spine. My sacrum is on a slant, so the lower spine is absolutely affected. I having bulging discs, but no pain there . Amazingly, regular orthopedists/ physical med docs just don't know much about sacral function/dysfunction. Go to You tube and search for sacral dysfunction. It is hard to diagnose. And I never try any of the online maneuvers without advice from PT, chiro, or expert. Can be dangerous.

Having said all of that, it is worth checking out John Sarno and his ideas. I read all books and ordered his on line DVD program which we used in CFS/FM support group. ( I led it 13 years). I did this because one young man showed up at group and got totally well with applying John Sarno's idea. He had been bed-ridden with back pain after pushing a refrigerator. But then he developed 2 pages of symptoms - was dx CFS/FM.

Well, one young girl ( age 20) sick for 8 years read 1/2 of Sarno's first book, and announced " I'm well!!' She had Raynaud's phenomenon and a bunch of issues - had disabled student status. She was also very smart, very sensitive, and type A. She remained well until she took a stressful job, then started to decline. Quit the job, got better.

I related all of this to help give some appreciation for what a strange and complex journey we are on. Geez. I am always astounded and sit here shaking my head back and forth ( on purpose) as I keep one leg in the very hard and important science of it, and the other leg in this metaphysical land where strangeness is commonplace and the scientific method that I depended on my entire life is virtually useless.

Blessing to you both as we travel down this road of discovery.

I learned enough about the metaphysical to know that I really don't want to go there. Some things that we don't understand, later will and have been explained by science. But some of the unknowns.....for me, will have to be more explained. :)

I read the Sarno book and know of others with back pain that it helped. I didn't find it to be of help to me. Wish it would have. I think most of us pull every straw that is available and hope we win with one of them. My focus now is on diet and the immune system. It's making huge differences for me.

Issie, I will look for your posts on these topics of diet and immune system. I saw an MD who was board- certified in family med. and in nutrition. Not many of those around. He told me that I should eat all the meat and protein I want to but to limit carbs. Well, I failed on that.

Metaphysical - some interesting things have happened over past years, but I really don't know if I can get well on this path. Feeling pretty discouraged.

Oh NOooooo! Not what I would have told you. Just the opposite. Look for my post. I've had some life changes by becoming a low fat, whole food, vegan. I do Not limit carbs. That's what gives us energy. I was literally on the road to dying and even though I still am unwell - I'm sooooo much better. Don't give up hope. We all have to have that.
