New collection of head symptoms - any sound familiar?

Hi all, so I've been going along with mainly the same symptoms - of varying degrees of severity - for a while now but have recently had a new load of symptoms in and around my head/neck.

These, initially, I assumed were vertigo related but the more they've hung about, the less I'm sure of that assumption now.

I have almost constant, nagging pain in the back of my neck, at the base of my head. Regular - not constant - pain in a strip across my forehead and front of my head. Strain and pressure behind both eyes and pressure in my ears. Almost feels as if somebody is blowing up a balloon in my head or pumping air into my skull!

I feel occasional nausea, but nothing like you'd relate to vertigo or Ménière's. I've had vertigo in the past and Serc 16 and the Epley manouevre set me right again but this time feels very different so, I'm just putting the feelers out there.

It's been ongoing for about 2-3 weeks now. I've put off going to my GP because I was hoping it was just stress/tension and would pass but as it's a weekend I thought I'd see if any of you had experienced anything similar until I can see him?

Thank you

David, these symptoms sound uncomfortable, to say the least, and you have my sympathies! I experience these types of symptoms occasionally and I attribute mine to inflammation of the brain. It comes on when I’ve overdone it. (I have ME). I have found no medication to help—only hydration, complete rest, and time. I do think you should check in with your doctor. Best wishes to you.

Hi annmarie,

Yes they do make it quite uncomfortable. Actually, I'm responsing to you right now whilst rest my neck as it always gets worse later in the day.

I try to stay hydrated but I do mouth breath a lot due to deviated septum, so I'll try to drink more. Plan to try and get an appointment with my Dr this week too!

David, have your symptoms improved at all since this post?

I've had some bizarre head symptoms for about 3 years now. I've been to my PCP, Ear/Nose/Throat specialists, etc. with nothing amiss discovered. It started with weird pressure and pulsing when I got out of my car after driving for more than say, 20 minutes. It was like I could feel my blood pounding in my head and swooshing. Some lightheadedness but no fainting. I've had pretty bad tinnitus for years, too. But for the past year or possibly more I've had pressure in my head and an uncomfortable feeling of fullness and ickiness that is pretty much with me daily. It's one of the more perplexing and unpleasant symptoms in a long list of symptoms I have with my fibromyalgia.
It almost feels like if I could just swallow and pop my ears it would feel better. But it never does. It can be scary at times, like, am I going to faint, or have a stroke? Eegads.

Roxi, is there anything you do, or take that makes it better?

Hey Boolea - firstly, I am really sorry it took me this long to reply. I woke up convinced I'd had a notification but couldn't find it, then never got around to checking the site. ME brain fog will do that to ya.

Unfortunately, no. The symptoms are still there. I still have no idea what's causing them, although I guess most of them are put down to ME.

Yes, that's absolutely brilliant - it does feel that way; if you could make your ears pop, your head would clear. I will have to remember that analogy next time I'm asked to describe it.

Sadly, I just got used to it and put it to the back of my list of symptoms to get checked out again, after so many others quickly followed it.

Have you found any improvement since last October? All of my symptoms have worsened since last year. Have just been a home worker ever since. Don't know how long they will allow me to carry that on for though!

Yep, I feel most of those too Roxi. Pressure, fogginess and pulse definitely. The others are intermittent. Not yet been able to find any answers.

I have found that taking a couple of ginkgo biloba a day helps a bit with concentration though.

Hi David,

I would not say these symptoms have improved since October; they might even have worsened. They seem to be with me daily. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago, and I always wonder what can be attributed to that, or could it be something different. I would say that of all the many, annoying symptoms that plague me, these head symptoms are near the top of the list, for ruining my quality of life, not to mention ability to focus and think clearly for any length of time.

I want so badly to find something which might help, but I have no idea where to start, after I saw the ENT specialist. All of my tests were normal, and my exam showed nothing amiss.

I have bad tinnitus, and I wonder if it is related to that. Oh, and almost daily headaches, which I attribute to my sinuses. I think we have to do a lot of our own attributing because seeing the doctor or a specialist for all of these things could get lengthy and expensive!

Did you have an opportunity to see your Doctor about these symptoms?
