Fluge/Mella Take out Patent on Nitric Oxide Treatment for ME/CFS

How many of you have the Protomyxzoa Rheumatica blood parasite discovered by Dr. Fry in Arizona? (also known as FL1953). I was told it "clogs up our veins" horribly thus restricting blood flow = possibly why we have low oxygen/ATP states in CFIDS (think classic low VO2 Max on the 2 day CPET test which is a hallmark of CFIDS). Sounds to me like this parasite could actually be the agent causing the problems in the blood vessel walls and why this woman experienced greater blood flow/oxygen from Imdur.....thoughts?

Hi,

Just noticed this as a linked post to the c latest Fluge & Mella update.

Were there any more developments?

Did anybody experiment with different doses of the Amino acids?

Anyone tryng the supps?

I am starting with 1000 mg of l-arginine a day slowly ramping up. I have tested negative for herpes virus so no worries there.

This clarifies a mystery 4 hour or so remission I had in 2012. I took one or two scoops of
Amplified wheybolic extreme 60 from GNC.

What ensued was the most amazing feeling of wellbeing I experienced since onset.
In about 30 minutes or much less my body instantly transformed into this amazing energy machine. I felt like moving and exercising. Did so by moving my arms and legs with great energy. I felt blood rushing to my muscles and my heart beat with effortless strength and ease. My pale skin was flushed and I felt like an invincible athlete. Oh my goodness what an experience. My arms and legs felt ready and primed to vault into jumps of joyful strength. That was like being me 23 years ago, before the breaks went on, full of vitality.

So I gave my incredible new body a bit of a aerobic workout. It responded incredibly well. The energy continued and I felt like crying of joy a d gratitude. I knew then that whatever this illness was it was just functional and not structural. It could be reversed 100% at least temporarily.

It lasted 4 hours or so. Then it slowly weny away.

I tried a repeat later that day, nothing like before. I felt out of sorts. I think now that I had probably depleted key precursors. Not knowing what. But since then I am full of hope and know we can come back. I wonder now if what I needed was l-citruline. Precursor of l-arginine.

Something or combination of things in that pack did the job. It is loaded with amino acids that affect energy, neurotransmitters and carbs. Oh what a feeling!!! I will never forget it

It is loaded with l-arginine , l-carnitine,etc too, but I suspect it is the synergistic combo that turned my whole body back on. My mind and my mood included.

I felt tremendously well and able.

Very interesting Raba. I just started taking citrulline malate.
----

Here are some experiences with NO-precursors like L-Citrulline and L-Arginine that I found online. L-Citrulline is more expensive than L-Arginine. However, it seems that citrulline is a safer option for some CFS patients as arginine can activate herpes viruses. Also, citrulline seems to be more effective and reliable at increasing NO levels as arginine is partly broken down in the liver. Arginine, on the other hand, seems to work more instantly.

L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1 Powder (BulkSupplements)
By Iona Sunon January 3, 2015
I use if primarily to assist with chronic fatigue issues rather than body building, so this review may not be what everyone is looking for in a review. I us it in conjunction with L-Arginine base and L-Arginine a-Ketoglutarate (AAKG) all from Bulk Supplements. It has had a noticeable effect in combination. The effect seems partially cumulative, so the first day or two is not enough time to judge.

I haven't experienced as much of an impact from this product as others have claimed, but it has had a noticeable effect combined with L-citruline and AAKG powder from this same supplier. I use if primarily to assist with chronic fatigue issues. Update - after using it for awhile in conjunction with L-Arginine base and L-Citruline DL Malate (both from Bulk Supplements) I've notice a greater improvement in my energy levels. The effect seems partially cumulative.

Another thing you might want to consider is getting some L-citrulline or L-citrulline/arginine combination supplement, that helped me considerably with energy/wakefulness, cognition, etc.
Chriswolf, Jul 23, 2015
If I feel I'm slipping whilst on arginine I'll bump back with a bit of lysine, which compete with one another, too much of either is not great, especially if your CFS is aggravated by some type of HHV virus, in my case likely Epstein-Barr.

L-Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate (Body Fortress Super NOS Pump)
Use for Chronic Fatigue!
By Dr Jas on March 29, 2016
Body Fortress Super NOS is the #1 BEST supplement I've ever tried for Chronic Fatigue. I was diagnosed with CFS/ME & FMS in 1997, and I've been using Super NOS for about a year. Other than one multivitamin supplement which my husband and I used to take and swear by, which unfortunately isn't made anymore, Super NOS is the only thing I've have found that's made a significant difference in my energy level for longer than a month or two. It'd say it's the #1 best supplement I've found (other than Vitalert), including prescription medicines.
I have Chronic Fatigue, as well as some autoimmune diseases, and I've tried every supplement I'm aware of that is thought to be helpful for CFS, and/or is just generally thought to boost energy levels of the body and mind. I've also tried all sorts of alternative treatments, and Super NOS is the only thing that's worked for me over a longer period of time.
I've tried schizandra, ENADA NADH, malic acid, magnesium, potassium, super mega vitamins, ribose (which did nothing but seemed to make me gain weight), and I've decided the best daily regimen for me is two Life Force multi-vitamins, Body Fortress Super NOS, Body Fortress unflavored whey protein, a potassium supplement for foot cramps, and a daily dose of sunshine for a Vitamin D deficiency. I also have MTHWF, and take B-12 in the sublingual form of both methylcobalamin and hydroxycobalamin.
I would recommend anyone who suffers from either CFS/ME, or Fibromyalgia with fatigue, might give Body Fortress Super NOS a try.

L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1 Powder (BulkSupplements)
Gives me energy and reduces brain fog
BySophia1803on September 16, 2016
I tried this product at the recommendation of others who have the same neurological issues that I have. It really works, I take 3 to 4 g in the morning and have much more energy to do housework and errands, and I have improved mental acuity and more emotional resilience, all of which help when I care for my elderly parent. The powder dissolves easily in water. I like to use about 12 oz water with it and add 1 teaspoon sugar free raspberry syrup to it to make it more palatable.

This didn't have an overly strong taste for me and mixed decently well with my powdered Gatorade. I have fibromyalgia and narcolepsy and have had L-Citrulline recommended to me by a number of individuals for increased energy. Every little bit of help I can get, I will take it. This does seem to add a bit more oomph to my day, probably about the equivalent of 20 min more in bed, nothing extreme or unnatural - just a little extra boost.

Combining citrulline with Pycnogenol/Pine Bark Extract might make it more effective since citrulline is a nitric oxide (NO) precursor and pine bark extract increases NO production.
https://examine.com/supplements/pycnogenol/
A combination of Pycnogenol and arginine has been been patented with this mechanism for the treatment of erectile dysfuntion. A few studies have shown good efficacy.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=prelox
Glutathione might also increase the effectiveness of citrulline.

I've been taking citrulline malate for a few days now and I notice a big reduction in brain fog. I can't say yet if citrulline has an effect on my fatigue level.

If the effect stays like this I'm very happy as nothing before had such a significant effect on my brain fog. Other things that help with my brain fog have a much smaller effect (Gotu Kola, Ashitaba, DMAE). Also, some therapies had a comparable effect but so short-lived (like 1 hour) that it's not worth the cost for me (ozone therapy, Neurofield/neurofeedback).

The citrulline malate seems to help the whole day so far. I started with a gram per day and noticed an effect the 2nd day. Now I'm up to 3 grams two times daily which I plan to stay on. I'm taking citrulline malate 2:1 powder.

I took Arginine a couple of years ago and felt fantastic - major cognitive & energy breakthrough... then I crashed HARD.

In hindsight, the Arginine may have stimulated an Epstein Barr flare... If I do the Arginine/Citrulline combo WITH Olive Leaf Extract (which works for reducing EBV flares for me), do you think this will help me get the benefits of Nitric Oxide (via Arginine/Citrulline) whilst managing the EBV? Has anyone experimented w this?

I just read an article yesterday with one Woman doing her own searches & found her proper diagnosis, all along she was suffering from Carcinoid Syndrome they found she had a Bowel Tumor then went further in testing she also had Liver Cancer & underwent a transplant...The 5HIAA 24 hour urine test revealed she had high levels of Serotonin & she

had also done a Chromogranin A blood test which came back abnormal she was given a CT Scan then another special scan used in Carcinoid Syndrome...Endocrine tests usually come back in Normal levels with this type of Cancer...It also can give issues to the Heart like tachycardia drop in blood pressure & maybe this could be why relief is now being

seen by the Oncology team in Norway...Has anyone on here had any of these tests performed if Yes Please let me know...I do know that there are Doctors now who are screening CFS EDS patients for Carcinoid Syndrome I have also seen Liver Cancer in hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) with EDS Hypermobility...Liver blood tests done by Doctors is usually Normal results until they do more extensive blood & urine profiles mentioned above...

Recent Publication in Pub Med was titled 'Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Hypermobility type is Associated with Rheumatic Diseases' I do not have the link but this should come up in Google search...They mention Ankylosing Spondylitis including RA, Osteoporosis etc. etc. this could be why Rituximab is helping & if true this points CFS/EDS into an auto-immune condition...Paper was Published online recently...

So I've been taking citrulline malate for over 3 months now. The effect it has on me is still amazing. Around 60-70% reduction in brain fog. RELIABLY. The effect it has on my fatigue is hard to tell. This is because right before trying citrulline I found a few other supplements that impact my fatigue.

Here's the supplements I take right now: Citrulline malate (3g, 2-3x/day), Cissus quadrangularis, R-alpha lipoic acid (Live Extension Super R-lipoic acid), stimulating capsules (with caffeine, tyrosine, taurine, choline, DMAE), L-Theanine, licorice root, damiana and bacillus clausii probiotics (Enterogermina). This marvelous combination is giving me my life back...

I tried pure L-citrulline and compared it to citrulline malate (2:1 powder). The effect on brain fog is the same, but citrulline malate additionally eliminates my joint pain and neck stiffness. Interestingly, malic acid and magnesium malate is used by quite a few fibromyalgia patients to reduce pain.

so, 6 - 9 grams total per day? how long to see results?

I tried citrulline malate, but maybe my dose was high enough, or I didn't stick it out long enough..

thanks

Yeah, 6-9 grams citrulline malate (2:1 powder) per day (that's 4-6 grams pure citrulline). I started more carefully with 3 grams per day or less. I noticed a difference the second day, and a big difference a week or two later when I was up to 6 grams per day.

According to Fluge and Mella, NO modulating therapies improved CFS symptoms for 4 of the 6 patients they tried it on. So it only works for some patients. Also, they report a clear symptomatic effect after 2 weeks of therapy.

NO is definitely a key for me... I have to be careful about crashing...

Does c. malate stimulate the same crashes that arginine does?

Do you take in in the morning & mid-day? (to avoid over stimulation before bed)..

thanks for the details.

Citrulline does NOT need to be taken on an empty stomach. It might work faster to take it on an empty stomach. Also, it's more convenient for bodybuilders and athletes to put it in a pre-workout shake and take it on an empty stomach. On the other hand, taking it with food leads to better bowel tolerance and probably better absorption. For me taking it with or without food has the same effect.

Arginine is said to activate herpes viruses. Taking lysine at the same time helps some people to avoid this problem. For citrulline there is far less information on that topic. Also, citrulline's mechanisms of action are not fully understood yet and usually over-simplified. I researched it a few months back and believe to remember that many people tolerate citrulline just fine while they get a herpes simplex flare from arginine. I used to have a big problem with EBV but never had a flare up with citrulline (I never dared taking arginine). My guess is that citrulline causes far less people to crash.

I take it early morning and mid-day. I'm back to work part time. When I work I take 3g in the morning and then put 6g citrulline malate and 3200mg Cissus powder in my thermos flask with herbal tea to take to work. Sometimes I still got 1 cup left in the evening and drink it before going to bed. I was never over-stimulated. For me it doesn't stimulate energy and focus but it reduces brain fog and fatigue. However, see my older posts in this thread for a report of someone who got panic attacks from citrulline malate. Some people do get over-stimulated. Altogehter I've seen very little negative reports on citrulline, but there aren't many reports from CFS patients yet.

Anyway, good luck ankaa. I hope you don't crash again. At what dosage did you try the citrulline?

ankaa

@Peter - I have been using much lower doses of citrulline - like 2g per day... I will start titrating up.

How long did it take you to get benefits? I've heard that it can take a while to kick in

Have you tried branched chain aminos? I've heard they also help w recovery

thanks!
