The article is tied together by the story of a Health Rising member's long struggle with illness (at least one other HR member is mentioned). This is not, however, just a human interest article. David Tuller devotes many paragraphs to debunking the belief promoted by medical institutions and individual doctors that Graded Exercise Therapy is an appropriate treatment for ME/CFS. Nita, the featured patient, tells Davide that she was made much worse, and never recovered, by following her doctor's orders to engage in GET.
