A good presentation. I was astonished to hear that Morgan Fairchild arranged for Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, to meet with Dr. Ellen Clayton about the IOM report. Did I hear that right?
That's what I heard. How nice that she was able to facilitate that meeting. I wonder how it will go?
I missed the beginning and Q & A, but did hear the Carol Head and Morgan Fairchild presentations. Carol did a good job of showing how little money is given to ME/CFS research given the economic toll and how much is given to comparable diseases. Said that parity would require hundreds of millions of dollars per year to be given to ME/CFS. She also called for the removal of institutional barriers to funding. Her third point was that physicians need to be taught about the disease and how to diagnose it.
MF said she used to have a mild case of it and that people comeup to her all of the time and say I heard you have CFS, I have it to and I have no one to talk to about it or ask questions about it. She said they are Hollywood heavy hitters, some of whom we would all know, and some from behind the scenes. I hope they will all come out of the woodworks and make their voices heard.
