The medication that helped me sleep was Wellbutrin. For the first week on this drug I did not sleep much at all. Then I started sleeping great. The Wellbutrin also regulated my GI function. This worked for about 5 years. I had energy and mental focus. Then, it stopped working.

Yes, on 25 mg. doxepin I was asleep for 2 days. My pain was entirely gone. But, also my GI tract completely shut down.

I use a tiny bit of xanax and Benadryl now on most nights. I take it early ( like 8:00 for a 10:00 bedtime) so not too much hang over.

But here is what happens to me- just now in fact : I get sleepy and tired sitting propped up reading or TV. Fine , go to bed, but as soon as I lie down I get very wired and restless. Anyone else?

This is so frustrating. Years ago I had a great chiropractor ( a sacro occipital specialist) and his neck adjustments started me sleeping again. But, these neck adjustments are tricky and he was the only one I would trust with my neck. Thinking of trying some NUCCA or atlas orthogonal adjustments of the atlas.

Of importance my severe chronic fatigue, fibro, and all of these problems started abruptly with a bad chiropractic adjustment of my neck and pelvis. I had slept fine before injury, but immediately after the injury I could only sleep 2 or 3 hours per night - for about 4 months.

So, I still think that many /most/ all of us have something not right in our necks or lower skull. And that is why the etiology of this disease remains elusive. Virtually no research looking closely at blood flow / spinal fluid flow in this critical area.

Oh, I forget, I also use a vpap machine and it's very helpful as I have both kinds of sleep apnea, obstructive and central, (where my brain forgets I have to breathe). Forgetting words is just awful, I love words and being bereft of them so often, it's frustrating. Lowers my self-esteem. Makes it hard to express myself and be understood. I've been ill with fm for about 30 years and spend a lot of my time in bed.
Hi Abby, I was wondering what's the status of your sleep on Xyrem and the Vpap? I've been on xyrem for a year now, gives me solid sleep, more energy, strength and stamina and lessens malaise and IBS. Because of the side effects my routine is 2 nights Xyrem and then a 1 night break from it.
How is your vpap different from an apap or a cpap? I used to be a total back sleeper and a sleep study showed I had mild to moderate sleep apnea. I tried the apap, had trouble tolerating it, it seemed to wake me up more often than my usual fragmented sleep. At that point I trained myself to be a total side sleeper, had another sleep study and found the apnea had decreased to where I didn't need an apap. I'm scheduled for another sleep study to see if I have apnea while on Xyrem. Id like to know your experience with the vpap, is it easier to tolerate than the cpap or apap?

Kate, I have same problem get up and 2 hours later have to go to bed. For an hour or so I sleep.
Can we just pick all of the above? Having both diseases fatigue is a common.Brain fog doesnt even touch the frustruating search for the simplest word, the short term memory deficits at times. I dont know which one causes that. Both I would say. My doc says post exertion intolerance is related to exercise but now its any battery sucking activity. I can go out for a few hours and end up in pain and exhaustion for days, a week. Its from both. Why do I do it to FEEL normal.

Perhaps this has been a topic that I missed, but I am curious to know how others first realized something was seriously wrong..... Anybody?
I went in for sinus infection. My doctor saw my glands popping out and felt them ran blood test. Epstein Barr for second time in life. Numbers went down but weird symptoms started .Couldnt sleep, Restless Leg, dizziness, she said my electrolytes were off. Had to drink Gatorade, still do. It was turning into CFS, followed by fibromyalgia.

I mean something like daytime sleepiness.
Waking at 11 in the morning and have to sleep again at 1 in the afternoon or something like that.

Or like some people report sleeping 18 hours a day. Stuff like that.
Lately, I have to crash for an hour or two and then get back to watching tv or reading and this is say 2-3 hours after waking up for the day. This is a new symptom, maybe progression. I had Epstein Barr in the past but not active now. No sleep apnea, but alot on my mind. Maybe my overloaded brain gets me up before my body is ready? Who knows. I get overexerted trying to figure it all out.
