    Supplements to help lower cholesterol?

In addition to what's already been said: my cardiologist recently put me on pterostilbene and/or resveratrol (found in blueberries and red wine), but I've yet to procure them. After finding I couldn't tolerate even half-doses of statins (some NPs say almost nobody with FM can tolerate...

Treatment of Activated Microglia with Ibudilast, Minocycline & Amitriptyline

So are you saying the minocycline is now giving you a wild ride? Or something else? How's the guitar playing going?

    Antihistamines for sleep

I became wary of diphenhydramine -- which I used pretty regularly -- when I started reading about the risks of long term use of anticholinergics (namely dementia). At some point benedryl stopped working for sleep (at least at normal dosages), AND I thought MAYBE it was simultaneously causing...

Cannabidiol, A2A Receptors, Microglia and Inflammation.

I've found nothing consistently better for relief than cannabis. Interesting that the researchers single out the sativa strain. I would have thought indica was even more effective. But today I stumbled across a Canadian opinion writer railing against the new Trudeau administration's continued...

    Duloxetine help pain?

Sounds like it may not be the thing for you -- although you've got a lot of acute stuff going on right now. When I started taking it, increased perspiration was one of the most consequential effects. I would just lay on the couch and marvel at how I could feel the ambient air cooling my skin...

    Potential Microglia Inhibitors

This editorial published yesterday by renowned Alzheimer's researchers seems to be getting some attention -- and could wind up helping some of us. The bad news is that Alzheimer's (and, possible, Parkinson's etc) might be contagious! Herpes is a big suspect. The good news is that we may start...

Treatment of Activated Microglia with Ibudilast, Minocycline & Amitriptyline

Hope you'll keep us posted, Loki. I've been very interested in minocycline for awhile, but my neurologist wouldn't prescribe it, so I put the idea on hold. (Memantine hasn't worked well for me.) What dosage are you using? Do you expect to use it short-term only? Hope it continues to work...

Novel Finding Sparks NIH Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) Gut Study

My elevated gliadin (DGP) IgG was enough to trigger an endoscopy (IgA was normal), but no evidence of celiac was found. Still, after much experimentation, I found gluten consistently aggravated my IBS and caused gut pain. So I'm sticking with non-gluten diet. It's disheartening to hear so...

    Taurine question. taste and function?

Yes, I used Powder City. I figure all the little hairs and shit just add valuable protein. Seems like their earthier powders -- CoQ10, ashwagandha, bacopa -- are usually worse than the white stuff. 500 mg of taurine might be a bit much for under your tongue, but it goes down easily however...

    Taurine question. taste and function?

Taurine is super mild. Easy to ingest 500 mg (1/8 tsp) with no water at all.Texture is like a fine sugar. At first it seems a little sweet, then there's a very faint hint of acidic (sour). There's no feeling of a chemical reaction on the tongue. No rejection response. Easy peasy.

    Duloxetine help pain?

I don't know why, but my neurologist prescribed 90 mg duloxetine (and fought Humana hard to get it), so maybe it was the larger dose that gave me pretty dramatic results within a week. I will say that now, two years later, its effectiveness is more questionable. That's why I'm gradually...

    Fibromyalgia "Tailored" Acupuncture

bobby, thanks, good to hear. And I agree; I would have thought "tailored" was the norm. But this research was purportedly important because past studies had not shown clear evidence that acupuncture helps FM pain. The difference now was "tailoring." Weird. Who Me? -- yes I was just following...

    Fibromyalgia "Tailored" Acupuncture

This recent study finds short-term and long-term fibromyalgia relief with acupuncture -- if the acupuncture is tailored properly to the individual patient. Even though tailoring is supposedly the key new ingredient, the study write-up does not give a sense of how practitioners do such...

    Duloxetine help pain?

Duloxetine eliminated most of my worst burning pain (all over, related to neuropathy) within a week. Also, surprisingly, it really helped with IBS, which I'd been dealing with for 15 years or so. Didn't do much re mood, or for my RLS. It certainly didn't touch my fatigue, but I don't think it...

best stimulant in viral and nonviral CFS

Yeah, that is interesting. I've tried just about every kind of combo in the dopamine chair there is (including precursors and l-dopa in the form of mucuna) -- but every time the same reactions return, even if after brief periods that seem productive. But I have never looked into prednisolone or...

best stimulant in viral and nonviral CFS

Here's a synopsis of what I've been discovering, in case it triggers any useful ideas... For a long time now I've been puzzling over the dopamine-chain connection to my FM/ME. I have neuropathies (small-fiber, peripheral, and autonomic), so, with me, my daily pain would usually progress...

best stimulant in viral and nonviral CFS

Historically I don't sweat -- which has fueled chronic burning sensations. But duloxetine helps with that. Stimulants clearly lead to regression: more burning, less sweating. But in low doses it's been fairly manageable.

best stimulant in viral and nonviral CFS

Lately I've been taking 2.5 mg in the morning, and then another 2.5 around noon. But even this amount can leave me pretty queasy, so I've been trying to skip doses whenever possible. I get the worst results when I get into too much of a routine with stims.

heartburn drugs linked to risk of dementia

Ugh, yet another awful possible scenario for PPI users. I've tried (for 15 years) everything from diet to supplements to fresh juices to management of exercise and meals, but my acid reflux always comes back with a vengeance. If you're not sure whether you have the full-blown disease, you...

best stimulant in viral and nonviral CFS

I've been intolerant of stims -- they tend to make me sick (flu-like) and paradoxically fatigued -- but I've recently been trying very small doses of dextroamphetamine, like 2.5 mg, which, surprisingly, gives me a pretty decent lift. I can still nap after taking it, but I can also push myself to...
