A model proposes that the gut comes first in ME/CFS
A recent European paper proposes that chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) starts with your genes and your leaky gut but not the leaky gut you necessarily associate with the disease; the leaky gut you had before, perhaps long before, you got sick..
The authors also suggest that we may not have to look far at all for an autoimmune model for ME/CFS. Another autoimmune disease, which also may originate in the gut, and which causes enormous fatigue, hits the energy producing factories in our cells at exactly the point ME/CFS researchers are interested in. It’s also possible that oxidative stress, instead of autoimmunity, is causing energy production problems.

Has anyone investigated the connection between an overgrowth of Klebsiella Pneumomia and chronic inflammation and autoimmune-like and autoimmune conditions. Klebsiella Pneumomia has been linked to Ankylosing spondylitis and reactive arthritis. Several reports have implicated Klebsiella pneumoniae as a triggering or perpetuating factor in AS. Its been hypothesized and in part confirmed that it may be a triggering and/or a perpetuating factor, possibly through a mechanism of molecular mimicry with self-antigens.
This begs the question that if one combines a “leaky Gut” with a Klebsiella Pneumomia overgrowth, as I have, could the increased production and release of its reactive liposacharides into the blood via damaged intestinal integrity be responsible for the fatigue, sickness, brainfog and body wide muscle and connective tissue pain seen in many of the chronic conditions. Many are reported triggered by foods such as sugars and starches. Klebsiella Pneumomia has a particular liking for fructose, lactose, starches and even resistant starches.
Klebsiella Pneumomia is often particularly antibiotic resistant and able to acquire resistance via plasmid transfer and as such would overgrow due to excess antibiotic use while the remaining ubiota is diminished. It is very difficult clear it from ones gut.
I have been tracking my gut bacteria using Ubiome downloads and recently did the G-Map testing and both show I have a frighteningly high level of Klebsiella Pneumomia (B12). The amount of Klebsiella has increased and so have the symptoms. I’d be curious if this has been investigated.
